![]() Hyperterminal (Windows) HyperTerminal is the defacto terminal program for any Windows OS up to XP - Windows Vista, 7. This helps to identify each device connected. You should receive an OK message if your settings are correct and the modem is working, as shown in Figure A. COM Port (Serial Port) - Each device you connect to your computer will be assigned a specific port number. When using a modem, you can type AT and press in the HyperTerminal connection to test communications. When you click OK, HyperTerminal will immediately open a connection to the port. For most devices, you can typically use 8 data bits, no parity (set to None), one stop bit, and hardware flow control.
